This is Jess from jesshuff.com. In this video, I’ll show you how to crochet the tongue for my free amigurumi pattern, Daisy the Dog.

I’ve included a link to the pattern in the video description.

With pink yarn, create a slip knot on your hook, leaving a 6-inch tail.

Chain 4. Single crochet in the second chain from your hook.

Single crochet in the next chain. Then do 5 single crochets in the last chain.

This side is ultimately going to be on the back side of the work, so feel free to move the tail forward to this side.

And then complete the remainder of the 5 single crochets.

Now we’re going to work on the other side of this chain base.

Single crochet in the next chain. Then single crochet in the last chain. This is the end of row 1.

To start row 2, chain 1, turn. Then single crochet in the next 3 stitches: 1, 2, 3.

Now we’re going to increase in the next 3 stitches: that’s 1, 2, and 3.

To finish the row, single crochet in the last 3 stitches.

To start row 3, chain 1. And without turning, single crochet 4 stitches across this top, flat edge of the tongue: 1, 2, 3, and 4.

Fasten off, leaving a 6-inch yarn tail.

Using a yarn needle, weave the beginning yarn tail into the work, and tie it off with the ending yarn tail.

Then you can cut these tails so there’s just a little over an inch left.

The tongue is now ready to crochet into the dog’s mouth at a later step.
