This is Jess from jesshuff.com. In this video, I’ll show you how to indent the eyes of your amigurumi project. This method can be used after adding your safety eyes or even after finishing your project.
For this tutorial, you will need:
- (2) straight pins
- (1) pair of safety eyes
- 18-inch (45cm) strand of yarn
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
Using straight pins, Mark the placement of each eye and adjust as necessary. When you’re happy with the placement, replace the straight pins with the safety eyes and secure the backings.
Thread the strand of yarn through a yarn needle. Insert the needle into the inner bottom corner of the left eye. Exit the needle through the inner bottom corner of the right eye.
Leaving an eight-inch (20cm) beginning yarn tail, insert the needle one row above on the same side, and exit the needle one row above the beginning yarn tail on the left side.
Insert the needle through the same stitch as the beginning yarn tail on the same side. Exit the needle at the same location as the first insertion point on the right side.
Gently pull each end of the yarn tail until the eyes are indented to your liking. Insert the needle one row above on the same side and exit the needle one row above the beginning yarn tail on the left side.
Remove the yarn needle and secure the beginning and ending yarn tails together with a double knot. Cut the ending yarn tail even with the beginning yarn tail, which is about 8in or 20cm.
Thread the tails through the yarn needle. Insert the needle directly below the knot and exit the needle through the back of the head.
Gently pull on the yarn tails so the double knot under the left eye disappears inside the work. Maintaining light tension, cut the yarn tails flush with the surface of the work so the remaining yarn tails disappear inside the head.
Your amigurumi project now has adorable sculpted eyes that help bring it to life.
