Video Transcript:
This is Jess from jesshuff.com. In this video, I’ll show you how to add the frosting drips to my free amigurumi pattern, Gumdrop the Gingerbread Man.
I’ve included a link to the full written pattern in the video description. With white yarn leaving a six-inch (15cm) yarn tail, create a slip knot on your hook.
Start the round centered on the back of the head in the false stitch created by the Invisible Finish at the end of round 13 of the Head & Body.
Inserting your hook bottom-to-top through each loop, crochet into the exposed front loops through round 14 of the Head & Body.
Single crochet in the first stitch. Half double crochet in the next stitch.
In the next stitch, make three double crochets with a chain between each double crochet:
- Double crochet
- Chain one
- Double crochet
- Chain one
- Double crochet
Half double crochet in the next stitch.
We’re going to repeat this sequence eight more times. Pause the video here and continue this sequence until you reach the end of the round.
Fasten off, leaving a six-inch (15cm) yarn tail. Thread the yarn tail through a yarn needle. Now we will create an Invisible Finish by creating a false stitch over the first stitch of the round.
Through the second stitch of the round, insert the needle front-to-back under the top loops. Then through the last stitch of the round, insert the needle front-to-back under the back loop only.
Pull the yarn tail until the false stitch matches the tension of the other stitches in the round. Secure with a knot, then hide the remaining yarn tail inside the work.
To secure the frosting drips to the head, you can backstitch them in place using my Invisible Stitching method. I’ve included a link to an in-depth tutorial in the video description.
