This is Jess from Jesshuff.com. In this video, I’ll show you how to sew ears with a round base onto the head of your amigurumi project.
For this tutorial, I highly recommend using a disappearing ink marker, which you can purchase at any craft store.
At this point, you should have two finished ears that have been fastened off and slipped stitched closed. The first thing we need to do is create a circular base for each ear.
Thread the yarn tail through a yarn needle. Pass the needle through the last and first slip stitches at the end of the ear and pull it tight.
Now we’re going to mark stitches on the head that will act as a guide while we sew. Because the ears have been slip stitched closed, the base will have half the number of stitches that you ended with in the last round.
These ears had 12 stitches in the last round, so the base has 6 slip stitches. We want to sew the ears to the head stitch for stitch, so we need to mark off two groups of 6 on the head.
If your pattern includes stitch markers for the ears, draw out your groups of 6 evenly around the markers. If your pattern does not indicate where to place the ears, use your best judgment.
Sew each ear to the head, attaching each of the slip stitches in the base of the ear to one of the marked stitches on the head.
I like to leave my stitches somewhat loose, then tighten them down at the end. Repeat this process for the other ear.
